CrossPointe Emergency & Disaster Preparedness
History
Back in the fall of 2005, CrossPointe Church formed a
Disaster Preparedness Team with the task to lead the church body
in becoming prepared for disasters affecting our community. The
main objective for this team is provide training opportunities
for disaster preparedness so that when a disaster occurs, the
people and families of CrossPointe Church are missionaries and
helpers to our neighbors whom need help to survive, and NOT be
mission fields or needing help due to the lack of disaster
preparation. This is another effort to impact our community for
the Lord, this time in the area of helping our neighbors survive
and get through natural disasters. Hopefully in the natural
effort of helping our neighbors, the Lord will provide
opportunities for us to share our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Goals
The Preparedness Team has several goals for its purpose.
First and foremost, the preparedness team wants to see every
member and family of CrossPointe Church prepared when disaster
strikes so they can get through the first five days of the
disaster on their own. Second, for those who are interested and
are willing to volunteer, the Preparedness Team wants to provide
further training in disaster preparedness so they can help
others in need (after disaster) under an organized plan of
implementation. Areas like being trained as a CERT member
(Community Emergency Response Team) which comes under the
direction and authority of the Bothell Fire Department (FEMA),
or being trained as a qualified First Aid individual willing to
help others injured in disaster, or through Southern Baptist
Disaster Relief, to obtain training to volunteer locally,
throughout the US or Internationally. Third, to work to develop
CrossPointe Church facilities into a Disaster Relief Center
cooperating with the City of Bothell, the American Red Cross,
and the Southern Baptist’s Disaster Relief organization for the
residents of our community. Realizing the above will take some
time, the priorities of above goals are set and over-lap of
goals will happen along the way.
Disaster Preparedness materials can be obtained from anyone
on the team or the church office to aid you as a person or
family in being preparing for a natural disaster. Remember, all
the governmental officials are not questioning the possibility
of a disaster, but just not sure WHEN a disaster will occur in
the Northwest. We cannot avoid a disaster, but we can be
prepared for one.
Please check the calendar for
upcoming training events.
